How to Incorporate Different Sized Art into your Home
Introducing art into your home is an adventure! It’s fun and exciting, yet it can also be a little overwhelming as art comes in all shapes and sizes. You may have found a piece of art you just have to have, but are unsure how to incorporate it into your home. Do you choose a large size to make a statement or a smaller, more delicate size to add a little pop of color. Don’t let questions like this hold you back. If you love the piece, you can find a place for it in your home! Here are some applications of different sized art in my collectors homes. I hope this inspires you!
Small can make a big impact
OK, let’s start with some smaller pieces. A nightstand is a perfect place to add a splash of color and one that is often overlooked. Simply tuck a 8”x10” framed piece behind a lamp and wake up to happiness and joy every single day!
Be inspired while in your home office by adding a 16”x20” or 18”x24” piece above your desk. Think of the energy and inspiration this could bring to your working day!
Pairings are everything
When pairing prints, don’t be afraid to go big - I’m talking 33” x 45” or 37”x57”. This can make a bright and bold statement in a hallway, and really elevate a lounge or family room when hung over a couch.
If you have molding in your home, I always recommend pairing two pieces. Play around with where to hang. I love how this collector used fresh thinking to hang outside of the moldings and the 27”x37” sizing work beautifully.
When hanging art over a couch, the frame should measure 75% of the length of the couch. So, for a 80” couch choose a piece (or two pieces) that measure around 60” wide. Both landscape and portrait pieces work well.
Create your own gallery
Add life to a blank space with a colorful gallery wall!
There are many ways to do this, here are just two of my favorites methods.
Choose art that you love, in all different sizes and just go for it!! The art and frames don’t have to match, be the same size, from the same artist or even have the same colors. The beauty of gallery walls are that there are no rules. You can’t go wrong as long as you choose art that you love!
Choose pieces which are the same size, and even from the same artist. The result? A cool gallery wall with lots of interesting elements and color, but with a more uniform vibe.
Transform a nook
Now, what about that little nook in your home that you are unsure what to do with? How about a contemporary bar cart with a large vibrant print! So fun!
I hope this helps!
